The best time to undertake this comprehensive journey is generally from January to March.
- January to March: The weather is predominantly dry and sunny across the Cultural Triangle, Hill Country, and the Southern Coast (including Yala and Bentota). This provides ideal conditions for sightseeing, hiking, safaris, and relaxing on the beach.
- April: Also a good month, though it can be hotter, especially in the Cultural Triangle. The Hill Country is still pleasant.
- July to September: While this is generally an “inter-monsoon” period with variable weather, it can still be a good time to visit the Hill Country and the south if you don’t mind occasional showers. Yala National Park often closes for a period in September/October for maintenance, so if you are visiting during those months, please verify the park’s opening status.
